Blackrow Farm offers self-catering holiday cottages in Dorset with wheelchair access and all facilities designed for use by disabled guests. The accommodation is suitable for all, but special attention has been paid to guests with mobility needs.
The accommodation is provided in an old red brick barn and former dairy and pig sty that have been converted and furnished with taste and attention to detail. Bedrooms, bathrooms and wet rooms are well appointed and the kitchen/living areas look out onto the glorious views of the Blackmore Vale.
Annie Coultas, the owner of Blackrow Farm will be delighted to welcome you to her pretty Grade 2 listed home. Created out of a group of ancient barns, there are two stylish and carefully planned cottages available, each with its own distinctive atmosphere and with the bonus of the additional space of the Threshing Barn – a fantastic space for larger family or group parties. The barn is equipped with WiFi, power points and an induction loop circuit as well.
Dairy Cottage (sleeps up to 4 + cot) has two generously sized double bedrooms suitable for a wide range of disabilities. Both bedrooms are large and spacious and come with an ensuite wet room, sensitive lighting and are luxuriously appointed with beds that can be used either as twin beds or as a double. The well appointed kitchen/living room has been created out of the old pig sty. The original character of this barn has been retained with its high ceiling and old beams, but it is furnished with a comfortable sofa and chairs. It is fitted with rise and fall sink and hobs, as well as fridge, freezer, microwave, washing and dishwashing machines. It also includes a small library of books and games, TV and WiFi throughout.
The Dutch Barn (sleeps up to 8 + cot) has one spacious ground floor bedroom with an ensuite wet room suitable for wheelchair access and three further double bedrooms upstairs. The stunning master bedroom comes with double/twin beds and has its own ensuite bathroom. Looking out over uninterrupted valley views, the room leads out onto its own balcony. There are two further double bedrooms with twin/double beds in them, and a well appointed family shower room.
The comfortable kitchen/living room is well equipped for wheelchair access and is fitted with a good sized dining table and eight chairs, comfortable sofas, as well as a flat screen TV and a small library of books and games.
Environment and conservation
Annie Coultas has a long commitment to sustainable living. All the barns are supplied by solar heating and heat recovery systems, as well as harvesting their own rainwater. Special attention has been made to selecting natural products in the cottages, including natural wood and stone fittings, clay based paint finishes, wool and hemp insulation and pure cotton bed linen.
Enjoy watching deer graze, pheasants strut, foxes hunt and herons flying to land beside the pond and, in the evening, you might see a barn owl glide by or hear a nightingale sing after dark. The newly planted woodland, made up of nearly 3000 traditional English mixed broadleaved trees, helps to provide a habitat for birds and wild mammals.
