South-East England ‘has the most blue badge residents’

March 9, 2017

The most blue badge residents in England can be found in the South East of the country, according to data acquired via a freedom of information request by Volkswagen Motability scheme provider, Inchcape Volkswagen.

According to the request sent out to various councils on August 15th 2016, an estimated 364,116 blue badges were found to be in operation throughout South-East England.

Of the councils which provided data, the next highest number of active blue badges can be found in the North West (362,294), with the South West having the third most blue badge residents (279,251).

In contrast, there are just 135,080 active blue badges identified in the North-East of England, making it the region with the fewest number of blue badges residents.

Here’s a look at the full breakdown of the figures:

With Kent having 71,737 blue badges currently in operation, the South-East of England also holds the feat of having the district with the most active blue badges. The North-West of England district of Lancashire has the next highest total at 64,913 badges, followed closely behind by the East Anglian district of Essex at 63,774.

On the other side of the scale, the Isles of Scilly has the fewest number of active blue badges with a mere 42 in operation. This shouldn’t be too surprising though, due to the archipelago off the Cornish coast having a land area of just 16.37km2.
