Service Users Enjoy a Fantastic Day of Fun!

August 18, 2017

Service users and staff members at Care Management Group (CMG), a leading provider of specialist residential care, supported living services and domiciliary care for people with learning disabilities, joined together at CMG’s Lilliputs Day Centre in Hornchurch to celebrate the organisations unique, annual ‘Service User Conference’.

Attended by over 300 members of staff and service users, the event provided a brilliant opportunity to join together in fun filled activities and entertainment.

Kick-starting the day, guests were treated to an entertainment spectacle, The Top Bananas band. They are the UK’s only professional band that perform on stilts, and as part of their performance they played a range of pop classics for all to enjoy. To the delight of the band, both staff members and service users alike joined in with singing and dancing within minutes of the music starting.

Later on in the day, there was an X Factor style talent show, which is always extremely popular. With a service user judging panel giving comment and an audience ready to vote for their favourite act, those taking part were able to perform their favourite song to encouraging crowds. There was also an ‘open microphone’ session hosted by CMG’s CEO Peter Kinsey, where service users are able to go on stage and say anything they like. One year, a service user asked his girlfriend to marry him!

Amongst the other events taking place, was a circus show where service users and staff members were invited to join in and learn some juggling, hula hoop and plate spinning skills. There was also a highly contested cake and art competition, alongside henna tattoos, makeup and nail painting areas for those seeking quieter activities.

CMG has worked for over two decades to support individuals with particularly complex needs, including those with autistic spectrum conditions, mental health needs, and profound and multiple learning difficulties.

The organisation is committed to ensuring that service users are given the opportunity to lead the most fulfilling and enriched lives possible.  A part of achieving this enabling service users to have access to a range of experiences, are the wide ranging, unique and innovative annual events hosted by CMG.
