Exemplar Health Care are set to host an informal evening of learning and networking aimed at Wigan based health professionals. Led by Exemplar Consultant Psychiatrist Dr Peter Marshall the event on Wednesday 7th November will see Dr Marshall share his insights into the link between severe mental illness and physical health inequalities.
Specialising in treating individuals living with severe mental ill-health, including people with treatment resistant schizophrenia, Dr Marshall works with them to develop new strategies to improve their lives.
Dr Peter Marshall commented “The connections between severe mental illness and physical health inequalities are complex but can often be understood and minimised. At Exemplar we feel that is important to raise awareness of the link, as well as creating a forum to share best practice in reducing inequality. This event is for all health and social care professionals who are interested in the topic and I look forward to sharing my insights with those who attend.”
The free ticketed event is open to health and social care commissioners, social workers, bed managers, as well as clinical and non-clinical care home colleagues who are interested in finding out more about tackling severe mental illness and physical health inequalities.
Attendees will obtain CPD points for attending to support their professional development and there will be refreshments provided.
Helen Baxendale, Clinical Director at Exemplar added “This is a fantastic opportunity for colleagues across health and social care to network and gain crucial CPD points to support their development. The fact that around 20% of the world’s children and adolescents have mental disorders or problems (World Health Organisation) it is crucial that we have these discussions and as a sector increase our knowledge of severe mental illness to provide the right care at the right time when they reach adulthood.”
