Families, carers, friends and educators of children and adults affected by autism are warmly invited to join Dr Anna Kennedy OBE and a host of experts at the AKO Autism Expo at Brunel University in West London on Saturday 23rd March 2019. Organised by Anna Kennedy Online, a charity dedicated to raising awareness of autism, the event aims to give like-minded people the chance to share stories, talk to professionals in specialist clinics and to find out more about autism and its related conditions. Options Autism, part of Outcomes First Group, which runs a national network of award-winning Department for Education registered special schools and therapeutic care homes, is proud to be a joint sponsor of the event.
The Expo includes a range of practical and inspirational advice; the day has an impressive line-up of speakers covering topics such as nutrition and autism, how to inspire a love of learning through interest-led games, and raising awareness of Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), as well as insights from adults with autism who have carved successful careers. Other highlights include free clinics run by experts offering legal guidance on Special Education Needs, autism training and advice on occupational therapy.
The show attracts a wide range of exhibitors offering specialist strategies, products and services to help people manage and understand autism – visitors can check out sensory equipment and visual aids, special yoga, gluten-free and other special diets, movement therapy, a support network for Dads, and more. The aim is to provide as much information and advice as possible to anyone caring for or educating people with autism.
Families and professionals will also have the chance to learn about the Autism Reality Experience – a mobile unit equipped with a range of hands-on sensory experiences designed to give people greater insight into the sensory processing difficulties faced by people on the autism spectrum.
Commenting on the show, CEO of Outcomes First Group Graham Baker said, “We are proud to be supporting this inspiring charity event run by Anna Kennedy, who is also our Options Autism Ambassador. Providing tailored support to those with autism and their families is key to helping them reach their potential and lead fulfilling, enriched lives. This is central to what we offer students and residents in our specialist schools and care homes. Each child or adult with autism is unique, and this show is a tremendous opportunity for parents, relatives and educators to explore the myriad of options available to support them on their journey with autism.”
